Birmingham City have confirmed that they have pulled out of the chase to sign Wigan Athletic winger Charles N'Zogbia.

Brum were previously believed to have lodged a bid of £8 million plus add-ons to bring in the diminutive winger, only to have it knocked back last week.

It has been speculated that the Latics are hoping to make £15m by selling their star.

Now, however, Birmingham's chief executive Peter Pannu has maintained that they are not going to return with an improved bid.

"We have had an offer rejected for the player and our valuations are different," he told The Express and Star.

"We don't think it's right to go any higher at this stage so therefore we withdraw."

The 23-year-old former Newcastle United winger had an impressive season with the Latics, helping them avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has in the past admitted to Goal.com UK that the Latics would not stand in the way of N'Zogbia moving to a bigger club.
