The Brazilian defender's future at the Estadio da Luz has been the subject of intense speculation after an impressive season in which he caught the eye of several giants across Europe.
Luiz, who is expected to become a member of the Selecao after the World Cup, is being tracked by Manchester duo City and United, as well as Real Madrid and Milan.
Reports in Portugal claim that City representatives are contacting Luiz on a regular basis to convince him into moving to Eastlands, having offered him a €1.8m-a-year contract, which would seem him earn almost three times as much as he does now at Benfica.
However, it is understood the ex-Vitoria player rejected the proposal as he prefers to wait for a big career opportunity, which he does not see at a club that will only contest the Europa League next season.
Record adds that City have also failed to come to terms with Benfica after tabling €37 million for the player, an offer which still falls short of his €50m valuation.
