Lorient keen to sign Arsenal youngster Francis Coquelin on loan

Utility man could be set for return to France…

Arsenal youngster Francis Coquelin could be set to join French side Lorient on loan as the Gunners continue to pursue Laurent Koscielny.

The 19-year-old has come through the ranks at the Emirates Stadium but, after failing to make a league appearance since signing professionally in 2008, could move out on loan to gain first team experience.

Coquelin, who has featured in cup ties for the Gunners, admits he wants to play first-team football and would be willing to leave the club on loan.

"My wish is to play more," Coquelin told Ouest France.

"Lorient’s interest is certainly there and there have been discussions between the two clubs, but for now, nothing is done.

"I will not be against a return to France, but what I want most is a club where I will get game time."

Coquelin - along with Armand Traore - has been linked with a possible move to Lorient with Koscielny going in the other direction, but the Gunners are reported to have already had two bids rejected for the highly-rated centre-back.

Of course, the biggest talking point at Old Trafford will be Patrice Evra and Luis Suarez re-locking horns, with the latter facing United for the first time after receiving an eight game ban for racially abusing the former. Both managers have been outspoken in their defence of their players this week, with Sir Alex Ferguson musing in today's programme notes that his "biggest regret is the way Patrice has been castigated in some quarters for standing up to racism".

As with in the Goal.com towers this week, debate has raged on Twitter as to who Sir Alex Ferguson should pair Wayne Rooney with for today’s showstopper with Liverpool. Chicarito and Danny Welbeck have got their fair share of fans, while Dimitar Berbatov is the romantics’ choice, following his spectacular overhead effort in the corresponding fixture last term. Stoic defenders of Michael Owen seem few and far between though.

Sandwiched between today’s showcase early and late kick-offs – Liverpool’s subplot-ridden trip to Old Trafford and ‘Arry’s return to the hot seat at White Hart Lane – is a set of pretty spicy looking 3pm-ers. Here’s what our Goal.com soothsayers (attending all today’s Premier League games) think will go down.
