Manchester City will make a final attempt to land James Milner from Aston Villa by bidding £27 million for the England midfielder, according to a report from The Daily Express.

Reports at the weekend had indicated that City would go no higher than £25m, and that they see the player's valuation as closer to £20m.

The Citizens are believed to have already had a bid of that amount rejected, as Villa seek a price closer to £30m.

City's Abu Dhabi-based owners are refusing to be held to ransom though, in spite of their enormous spending power, and will refrain from sanctioning an offer no higher than £27m for the England man.
