Darren Fletcher's not built for 'anti-football' insists Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson
Ferguson defends midfielder against Arsene Wenger blast...
By Tony Corbin
The league's titans meet for the first time since August's Old Trafford encounter on Sunday, where Gunner's boss Arsene Wenger openly criticised Fletcher's hard-hitting approach.
Ferguson resisted the temptation to verbally lay into the Frenchman in an interview with IOL Sport recently, going as far as pleading with United fans to stop abusing his rival.
However, the Scot was not backing down over the accusations laid against his midfield lynchpin earlier in the summer.
“That is where Arsene [Wenger] lets himself down,” Ferguson told IOL Sport.
“What he said was disappointing and actually, I don’t think he believes it for a minute.
“Everyone knows that Darren Fletcher is not a dirty player or a physical player. He is not built that way.
“But he can win the ball and his timing and energy to get to it is fantastic. You can’t call that a fault. Being able to tackle properly is a great part of the game.”
The Red Devils travel to the Emirates on Sunday where they have not won in the league since February 2005.
