Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand charged with violent conduct
Football Association level violent conduct charge at Rio after clash with Hull City's Craig Fagan.
By Alan Dawson
The roaming centre back had coped valiantly with the threat that Phil Brown's side posed, but has retrospectively been hit with an FA charge of violent conduct due to the aforementioned altercation.
Ferdinand, who was returning to Sir Alex Ferguson's line-up following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury, is now facing a three-game ban and could be absent from the club's crucial top-of-the-table clash with Arsene Wenger's in-form Arsenal.
Steve Bennett, the officiator of the United victory, missed the swing and so the incident was left unpunished, however, the Football Association have studied the ordeal and have found Ferdinand guilty of violent conduct.
Ferdinand will now have to confirm or deny the charge prior to a hearing scheduled for Thursday, January 28.
Meanwhile, United will be going through their preparations for the second-leg of the League Cup semi-final against local rivals Manchester City on Wednesday evening.-
