Goal.com wins Readers' Choice Best Football News Site of 2009 in annual Soccerlens awards
The best is yet to come...
Over 9,000 votes were fielded as both readers and the Soccerlens editors vote across 17 categories for the winners from 60 football-related websites based around the globe, and Goal.com secured the winning vote by a landslide margin of 58%.
2009 saw Goal.com confirm its place as the world's biggest and best community for football fans, with each of the 20 editions offering both regional and international expertise and providing upwards of 60,000 news articles per month.
We also integrated a host of new features to add to the Goal.com experience for all of our users, and 2010 promises to be an even bigger year for us as we approach the 2010 World Cup whilst covering the most exciting and dynamic news from around the world.
In rewarding Goal.com with the title, Soccerlens wrote: 'Goal has significantly invested in improving their news coverage in 2009 – at a time when other major organisations were cutting back. They have an excellent crew of writers and while they will report just about anything – they are definitely the most popular football news site.'
Goal.com's PR Director Will Wood said: "We're delighted to have been named the Readers' Choice Best Football News Site of 2009 by Soccerlens, especially as it is voted by fans from around the world, and we wish to thank those of you that took the time to register your support.
"We strive to offer the most comprehensive news and features for all of our users, and we are confident that 2010 will be even more rewarding both for the team behind Goal.com and our users."
