The Austria international played under the Catalan coach for three years at Bayern Munich and looks set to be reunited next season as the Etihad club splash the cash

Manchester City have opened talks with Bayern Munich regarding a potential £40 million move for defender David Alaba, according to reports from the Sun.

Pep Guardiola is determined to refresh his squad, starting with the full-back berths, and has made the Austria international as his number one target.

Alaba, who can play on either side of defence and in central midfield, worked under Guardiola for three years at Bayern, and signed a new five-year deal at the Allianz Arena in March.
