Sevilla confirm interest in Liverpool’s Allen and Alberto

The Spanish side's sporting director, Monchi, has confirmed both players are being assessed as the duo match the club's profile for their position - but no bids have been made yet

Sevilla have confirmed Liverpool midfield pair Joe Allen and Luis Alberto are on their list of targets as both players offer attributes the club are looking to acquire in the summer transfer market.

Goal revealed on June 23 that the Europa League champions are considering an approach for the Wales international, and reported on Tuesday that the Reds are aware of the Spanish side’s interest in the 23-year-old, who would cost them upwards of £7 million.

They are also keeping an eye on Brazilian Ganso, who currently plays with Sao Paulo.

Addressing Sevilla’s transfer plans, sporting director Monchi said: “Ganso and Allen aren’t the only players that fit in our plans.

"They are on our list and they comply with the profile that we are searching for.”

The Liga outfit face stiff competition to land the 26-year-old, with his former club Swansea already having had an £8m bid rebuffed by Liverpool.

Given Allen's composed, effective displays at the Euros, there will be no shortage of suitors for him this summer and his £10m price tag will escalate.

As per Goal’s understanding, Monchi affirmed Sevilla have not yet opened discussions with the Reds over Alberto, but are weighing up a move for the player, who swapped them for Liverpool in the summer of 2013 at a fee of £6.8m.

“We received an offer from Luis Alberto’s agent,” he said. 

“We’re assessing it, but we haven’t started talks with Liverpool. He fits in our game style and can be an interesting option for us.”

The Premier League side will be resolute in their asking price given the versatile Spaniard's performances on loan at Deportivo last season, where he netted six times and registered eight assists in 31 appearances.
