Everton are making a £3.5 million move for Mohamed Diame and expect to sign the West Ham midfielder this month, Goal can reveal.

But the Toffees are expected to push through the move for Diame, who worked with Roberto Martinez at Wigan, and will bolster a squad that finished fifth in the Premier League last season.
Goal understands that former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o also features in Everton's transfer plans, with the club offering a two-year contract to ward off rival interest from Liverpool.
Diame, 27, has just a year left on his contract and the £3.5m release clause in his deal means the transfer should be relatively simple if he can agree personal terms to move to Goodison Park.
The Hammers have been trying to convince Diame to sign a contract extension but the player wants to sign for Everton.
Diame has spoken in the past of his desire to move to a top six club and was only used as a substitute in West Ham’s opening day defeat to Tottenham last weekend.
Everton have signed two midfielders over the summer in Gareth Barry and Muhamed Besic, but Martinez wants more options as he prepares for a campaign with the added complication of Europa League fixtures.
Everton were dealt a blow last week when star midfielder Ross Barkley underwent knee surgery which could rule him out for several months.
Diame’s potential could soften the blow, with Martinez valuing his versatility as a powerful midfielder who can play in any role across the midfield.
