The former Chelsea midfielder will go up against the Blues for the Premier League title next season after agreeing to join Manuel Pellegrini's team on loan from New York City
Frank Lampard says he is excited to begin a “new chapter” in his career after agreeing to join Manchester City on loan before his new club New York City play their first Major League Soccer game next year.
The former Chelsea midfielder will compete with the Blues for the Premier League title in 2014-15 after meeting with Manuel Pellegrini in New York to confirm the temporary move.
Lampard will be eligible to play for City both domestically and in European competition as they look to retain the championship they won in Pellegrini’s first season in charge at the Etihad Stadium.
“Joining up with Manchester City is a fantastic opportunity for me to continue to train and play at the top level and make sure I am in top condition for New York City,” Lampard told the English club’s official website.
“It has been an amazing few days for me since the unveiling in Brooklyn and everyone connected with both clubs has been fantastic to me. This is a new chapter of my career and I'm really excited about the experience.
“I met Manuel and some of the players in New York and I'm looking forward to getting into training and making a contribution for Manchester City ahead of my move over to New York.”
