Everton's move to sign Chelsea and Ghana winger Christian Atsu on a season-long loan deal has stalled, Goal understands.

Atsu was brought up in conversation between the Merseyside club and the Stamford Bridge outfit during negotiations over Romelu Lukaku's £28 million move to Goodison Park.

Officials at Chelsea were understood to be keen for the winger to work with Roberto Martinez after Lukaku enjoyed a prolific 2013-14 season in front of goal under the former Wigan boss.

But the west London club want assurances that Atsu will play regular first-team football next season if he is loaned out - something Everton are unable to guarantee.

A number of other Premier League clubs are also keen to loan Atsu, who spent last season in the Netherlands with Chelsea's partnership club Vitesse.

The 22-year-old also went to the World Cup with Ghana, and started each of the African side's three group games.
