Barcelona release Cuenca on free transfer

The 23-year-old winger is free to start looking for a new club after his contract with the Spanish giants is cancelled, having battled with knee injuries for some time
Barcelona have announced that winger Isaac Cuenca has been released on a free transfer with immediate effect.

The 23-year-old had a contract at Camp Nou until the summer of 2015 but was no longer part of the club's plans and his deal has consequently been terminated.

"Barcelona have communicated to Isaac Cuenca that he is no longer part of the club's plans for next season for technical reasons," read a statement on the club's official website.

"The player has accepted the club's proposal to terminate his existing contract after a few days of consideration."

Cuenca came through the ranks of the Barcelona youth academy but was never able to secure regular first-team action in Catalunya, partially due to a number of knee injuries.

The versatile forward made 30 appearances for the Blaugrana, all in 2011-12, scoring four goals in the process.

He also enjoyed loan spells at Sabadell in 2010-11 and at Ajax in the second half of the 2012-13 campaign.
