But De Vrij's representative has played down rumours that his client has already put pen to paper on a contract at Old Trafford, and insists he is only concentrating on Oranje's World Cup campaign.
"We have no agreement with Manchester United, nor have we signed for them,” his agent told Lazionews24.com.
"I don’t know where this rumour came from. Stefan is concentrated only on the World Cup and he wants to continue doing well."
De Vrij, who scored his first international goal against Spain in his side's opening World Cup fixture, has also been rumoured to be interesting Lazio, but his agent again moved to quash the reports.
"Links to Lazio? No comment," he added.
Van Gaal has already begun adding to his squad with the signings of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, though on Saturday Goal revealed that a move for Arturo Vidal could be in doubt due to Juventus demanding £45m plus Nani for the Chile midfielder.
