Full-back Andre Blackman is set to become Dave Hockaday's first signing as Leeds boss, Goal understands.

The 23-year-old is a free agent and has been training with the club since Hockaday took charge.

Goal understands that he has travelled with the club on their pre-season training camp to Italy and has done enough to earn a permanent deal - which is set to be confirmed after the transfer window opens on Tuesday.

Left-sider Blackman, once touted as the next Ashley Cole, began his career with Arsenal and had stints as a youth with Chelsea, Tottenham, West Ham and Portsmouth before he was handed a professional deal at Bristol City in 2010.

He made his senior debut for Bristol City before then joining AFC Wimbledon, where he began fulfil some of the potential at which his earlier career had hinted, and earned a move to Scottish giants Celtic in 2011.

During his time in Scotland, he was also loaned to Inverness before heading back to England to join Plymouth last summer but he left Home Park in January and finished the season with loan stints at non-league Dover and Maidenhead.

Now having impressed at Leeds on trial, he is getting his chance in the Football League again.
