After playing a key role in Netherlands' 5-1 thrashing of Spain, the Ajax star has been linked to the Red Devils but he feels that it is a convenient link to make

Netherlands defender Daley Blind has acknowledged speculation linking him with Manchester United but refuses to be distracted by transfer talk.

The 24-year-old played a pivotal role in the Oranje’s 5-1 victory over World Cup holders Spain in their Group B opener after creating goals for Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie from left-back.

His performance earned rave reviews and, with Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal soon to take over at Old Trafford, reports of interest from the Red Devils, though Goal understands that the Premier League side have agreed personal terms with another left-back, Southampton teenager Luke Shaw.

While aware of rumours concerning his future, the Ajax star feels that the link to United may simply be a convenient one to draw based on the club's Dutch connection.

"All the attention is a very big thing now," Blind told the press, "but I try not to think about it too much and will stay with my feet on the ground.

"The link with Manchester United is easily made because Robin [van Persie] is playing there and Van Gaal takes over next season."

Blind's current deal at the Amsterdam Arena expires in June 2016.
