Arsene Wenger has made Marshall his top goalkeeper target after failing to hold on to Lukasz Fabianski, who rejected a new contract to join Swansea City on a free transfer last month.

Wenger wants a proven 'keeper to challenge established No.1 Wojciech Szczesny next season and provide top-class cover.

Marshall signed a new Cardiff contract in February that still has four years to run but the Welsh club are unlikely to be able to fight off Arsenal's interest after their debut season in the Premier League ended in relegation.

The Scotland international, who began his career at Celtic before joining Norwich City in 2007, has flourished over the last two seasons during Cardiff's promotion to the Premier League and subsequent demotion.

The 29-year-old was named the club's player of the year after producing a series of outstanding performances that caught the eye of a number of Premier League rivals.

In addition to a goalkeeper, Arsenal are also in the market for a right-back, centre-back, midfield anchorman, wide forward and central striker.

As revealed by Goal, the Gunners are close to tying up a £7m deal for Toulouse defender Serge Aurier as the replacement for Manchester City-bound Bacary Sagna.
