thumbnail Hello,

The 31-year-old has racked up seven goals and seven assists this season and the Dutch icon says his compatriot does not deserve to be playing for a side battling relegation

Johan Cruyff believes that Rafael van der Vaart's talents are wasted at Hamburg, claiming that the Bundesliga outfit are too "weak" for the attacking midfielder.

The 31-year-old has seven goals and seven assists this season but Mirko Slomka's men are just one point above the drop zone, having played a game more than 16th-placed Nurnberg.

And Netherlands legend Cruyff believes that his compatriot deserves better than to be battling relegation.

"Hamburg is a problem for Rafael van der Vaart," the three-time European Cup winner told the Hamburger Morgenpost.

"It's just not good that he plays in a weak team. Van der Vaart needs to do a lot of running in Hamburg and that's not one of his strengths.

"Van der Vaart is a very good footballer; his strength is to play football."

Despite Hamburg's struggles this season, Van der Vaart is expected to be a part of the Dutch squad for the 2010 World Cup.
