The Brazil international's previous contract was due to expire in June 2016 and David Moyes has been said to be keeping tabs on his situation at the Allianz Arena.

The player's agent, Marcus Marin, told Goal in January that the Brazil international was aware of United's interest and suggested that a move may be of interest to him – though no concrete bid ever materialised.

And now the 30-year-old has ended speculation about his future by inking a one-year extension with the Bavarian giants.

As a result, United may reignite their interest in Porto's Nicolas Otamendi in the summer, with club captain and defensive stalwart Nemanja Vidic set to join Inter in the close-season.

Dante joined Bayern from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2012.
