The Blues confirmed they had agreed a deal with Basel for the Egyptian on Thursday evening, with Juan Mata expected to complete his move to Manchester United on Friday.

Salah has not yet put pen to paper on a contract, or passed a medical, and Liverpool still retain an active interest in the player, but Mourinho insists the 21-year-old has made up his mind.

"Everything is signed and done with Basel subject to the medical [which will take place in Switzerland]," Mourinho told reporters. "We know he is very happy to come.

"We believe if he comes he'll have a similar process to Willian. He needs two to three months to grow up and feel comfortable with us.

"He can play right, left or as a No.10. He's fast, creative, enthusiastic, a humble personality on the pitch and works for the team.

"We don't know what Liverpool were doing [about Salah]. We spoke to his club, agreed the details and he wants to sign for Chelsea."
