Hull City have agreed a fee with West Brom for Shane Long and the striker will now hold talks with Steve Bruce's side.
The 26-year-old has six months remaining on his current deal at the Hawthorns but is set to become Hull's second attacking signing of the January transfer window after Nikica Jelavic arrived from Everton on a three-and-a-half year deal on Wednesday.
West Brom’s sporting & technical director Richard Garlick revealed Long had twice been offered an improvement on his current contract but the Republic of Ireland international decided not to renew.
“We began talking to Shane about a new contract last spring and, during the ongoing negotiations, we made him two offers which would have significantly increased his salary,” Garlick told the club's official website.
“However, despite our best endeavours, Shane has declined to sign a new contract.
“Shane effectively only has 18 months left on his deal and with him no closer to accepting our terms and then Hull making an acceptable offer, we felt it was in the club’s best interests to accept the bid.”
