Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has confirmed that he was the subject of a failed bid from Manchester United.

The Germany international revealed the Spanish club snubbed an offer from the Premier League champions and has been told by Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti that he has a place in the side this season.

"Real Madrid has rejected the offer, so it's over. There was no need to hold talks. I had a good chat with Ancelotti, that's why I knew that I will play for Real this season," Khedira said.

Manchester United boss David Moyes sealed a deadline day deal for Marouane Fellaini from Everton for £27.5million in a move which saw him reunited with his former player.

However, they failed to seal a deal for fellow midfielder Ander Herrera from La Liga side Athletic Bilbao as the club looked to increase their midfield options further.

The Premier League champions also saw a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season for Khedira’s Real Madrid team-mate Fabio Coentrao fail to go through on deadline day.
