The 27-year-old was expected to feature in Monday night's game against Manuel Pellegrini's men, however, following Arsenal's approach, Cabaye was left out of the squad as uncertainty surrounds the former Lille midfielder's future.
"What I can confirm is that on the eve of the game we've had a bid for the player which we don't think is acceptable," a visibly annoyed Alan Pardew told Sky Sports when asked about Cabaye's omission before the match.
"Therefore I have to pick a team tonight that's going to get us a result. The rights and wrongs of that bid, people will have their own opinion. I know what I think about it."
Arsenal missed out on Luiz Gustavo earlier in August, and a move for Cabaye has been was necessitated by injuries to midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta.
