Everton boss Roberto Martinez has claimed that no club has made their interest in Fellaini concrete yet but United are considering a move to trigger the midfielder's release clause.
The 25-year-old will be in attendance for Martinez's first home game in charge on Sunday but will not feature due to an infected cut in his lower leg, according to the club.
Fellaini had previously been a permanent fixture under the new Everton manager, starting five of their six pre-season games this summer.
Meanwhile, Nikica Jelavic has earned his first start after netting two goals against Blackburn Rovers and a clinical strike against Real Madrid.
Tim Howard has regained his place after sharing goalkeeping duties with Joel Robles, while Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman are the full-backs in a familiar defence.
