Fabricio Coloccini has given up in his attempt to return to Argentina and is ready to fight for Newcastle United, according to manager Alan Pardew.
The club captain originally expressed his desire of returning to his homeland in January but a move to San Lorenzo, where his father is a youth coach, was blocked by the club.
Pardew and Coloccini have since held talks where, according to the manger, the centre-back has expressed his desire to fight for the Tyneside club next season.
"He is coming back to play this year," Pardew told The Shields Gazette.
"Me and him have had a lot of discussions about last year, very constructive ones, I have to say. He wants to come back and captain the team.
"He wants to lead us and I think he showed at the back of last season how important he is to us - when he played we looked a different team."
