Norwich City contact Ajax about Alderweireld, claims father

Chris Hughton has allegedly targeted and confirmed their interest in the Belgium international defender, who has previously been linked with Newcastle, Liverpool and Tottenham

Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld is a transfer target for Norwich, according to the player's father.

The 24-year-old can play at both centre-back and right-back and has been linked with moves to Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham in recent months, with the Eredivisie champions’ coach Frank De Boer confident he can find a replacement over the summer.

Norwich boss Chris Hughton has been busy thus far in the transfer window, recruiting Nathan Redmond and Ricky van Wolfswinkel, and Alderweireld’s father, Vic, has claimed the Canaries are now tracking his son.

"They've not spoken to us yet," he told Het Nieuwsblad.

"Norwich played it correct and first confirmed their interest to Ajax. This week it will become clear how interesting the offer is."
