Lazio defender Cavanda could follow Diakite to Sunderland, reveals agent

The Angolan-born full-back is a target for Paolo Di Canio, who will hope to reunite the 22-year-old with the French centre-back he played alongside at the Stadio Olimpico
Luis Pedro Cavanda may join his former Lazio team-mate Modibo Diakite at Sunderland, according to the Belgium Under-21 defender's agent.

Cavanda has been touted as a replacement for Phil Bardsley, who could leave the club after being pictured lying in £50 notes on a casino floor, as manager Paolo Di Canio looks to remould the ailing Black Cats squad.

5/1 Sunderland are 5/1 with William Hill to be relegated
Ulisse Savani, who also represents Diakite, insists Sunderland are an option for Cavanda and would not rule out a move to Wearside for the 22-year-old when quizzed on the matter.

"We'll see. We are considering various possibilities and among them is Sunderland," Savani told

Diakite completed a move to Di Canio's side after the expiry of his contract and Savani believes Sunderland's desire to complete a move for the French central defender was the decisive factor behind the deal.

Savani added: "The reasons why Inter and Napoli did not take Diakite are several and they are not economic reasons, but rather that Sunderland showed they really wanted him.

"We are grateful and the player is delighted to have become their player."
