Wigan sign Perch from Newcastle

The versatile 27-year-old is Owen Coyle's fourth signing of the summer and has penned a four-year deal with last season's FA Cup winners
Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of James Perch from Newcastle United.

The versatile 27-year-old has committed to a four-year deal with the Championship club to become Owen Coyle's fourth signing of the summer at the DW Stadium.

Perch was signed by Chris Hughton from Nottingham Forest in July 2010 and made over 80 appearances for Newcastle during his three-year spell at the club.

Perch says he is now looking forward to starting a new chapter of his career at Wigan and aims to help last season's FA Cup winners back into the Premier League following their relegation last term.

“It feels great to be here with a new challenge ahead of me, and I’m very excited at getting that started," he told the club's official website.

“The prospect of helping to get the team promoted was really appealing and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the boys and get started.

“I think Wigan Athletic is a great club and after speaking with the manager, his ambition and determination to take the club back to the Premier League where it belongs is something I wanted to be a part of.”
