Swansea close in on second De Guzman loan

Chairman Huw Jenkins is "optimistic" the midfielder, who notched eight goals and nine assists in 43 appearances last season, can spend next term at the Liberty Stadium
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has revealed the club are looking to sign Jonathan de Guzman on a second season-long loan deal from Villarreal.

The midfielder, who moved to the Liberty Stadium following the Yellow Submarine's relegation to Segunda Division, notched eight goals and nine assists in 43 appearances last season as the Swans won the Capital One Cup and finished ninth in the Premier League.

Villarreal won promotion back to La Liga for the upcoming campaign, but Jenkins says De Guzman is keen to return to Swansea, with an agreement looking likely.

"I have met with Jonathan's agent and he is comfortable with where we are at," Jenkins told the South Wales Evening Post.

"Hopefully we can tie something up with Villarreal soon. We are optimistic about that happening."

De Guzman has previously underlined his determination to extend his Swansea stay, adding that his international bow for the Netherlands was due to the stability available to him at the Welsh club.
