Wigan striker Kone aims for 'one of the best clubs in England'

The 29-year-old has no intention of spending a season in the Championship after the Latics' relegation and would be happy to turn out for the likes of Crystal Palace instead
Wigan striker Arouna Kone hopes to move to "one of the best clubs in England" as he seeks an exit from the relegated side.

The Ivory Coast international does not want to play in the Championship and has been linked with the likes of Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Everton, now managed by the man who brought the forward to the Premier League, Roberto Martinez.

"You always have ambitions as a footballer and I don't intend to play in the English second division," Kone told The Sun.

"Wigan have gone down, which is a real shame. It's up to them to set out their stance about my situation. I aim to play for one of the best clubs in England and I hope I will get the chance.

"I've had plenty of approaches but I can't reveal the names of the clubs."

Asked if Palace's interest would be welcomed, Kone replied: "Crystal Palace have gone up and, from the moment a club is in the Premier League, that is good for me.

"I'm under contract with Wigan for two more years but, if there is an offer that is good for both me and Wigan, I will seek to leave."
