The Newcastle United midfielder recently hinted that he could leave St James' Park, and the newly-promoted French club's CEO has admitted they are interested in the 27-year-old
The 27-year-old recently revealed his interest in a move to Manchester United, hinting that he is looking for an exit from Tyneside.
Free agent Eric Abidal, who has been released by Barcelona, has also been touted as a target for Les Rouge et Blanc, and CEO Vadim Vasilyev appears to be keen on the French duo.
“Yohan Cabaye? He is an exciting player,” he told L’Equipe.
"And [Eric] Abidal is a strong player. If he could come back to Le Championnat everyone would be delighted."
Cabaye has established himself as a key player in Alan Pardew’s Newcastle side, making some telling contributions despite a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but could be set to join an ever-growing list of stars at the newly-promoted principality club.
The mega-rich side have already spent big this summer, snatching striker Radamel Falcao ahead of many top European clubs.
Monaco have also made a double swoop for Porto’s James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho, while bringing in experienced defender Ricardo Carvalho as they look to enjoy a successful first season back in Ligue 1.
