The Spain international scored 22 goals in all competitions last season but he could face further competition for a place in Mourinho's side after Zenit forward Hulk hinted that Chelsea's interest in him is genuine.

However, Torres says the arrival of Mourinho is a big boost for the club and wants to stay and see out his contract at Stamford Bridge.

"I haven't talked to him [Mourinho] yet. His arrival is great news for the club, a lot of players know him already and it will be great for us. I'm confident with my status at Chelsea," he said.

“I have three years left on my contract and my plan is to honour that contract.

"I don't think about any other club than Chelsea and as soon as I get there I will be ready to work under Mourinho's instructions and plan to do my best and help the team, that is what I have to do.

“You will always hear rumours about exits and incomings of players but my interest is to stay at Chelsea and help the team.

"I have my mind clear that the future for me is Chelsea. When I signed the contract I did express that the intention was to be there for five and a half years, now there are three years left and I am committed to honour them."
