Former France and Monaco star Youri Djorkaeff is delighted to see his former team splash the cash on stars Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez and believes they will take the Ligue 1 side back to the top of the game.
The newly-promoted Stade Louis II-outfit, bankrolled by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, have hit the headlines by capturing Porto duo Moutinho and Rodriguez, with Atletico Madrid goal machine Falcao's move to Monte Carlo set to be made official imminently.
"It's great for Ligue 1 because it makes the French league exciting,” Djorkaeff told Goal.
“Now there is Monaco, Paris-Saint Germain, Marseille are back to high levels, there is Lille and Lyon also. There are five really big teams who can compete.
"It's great to see Monaco back because they have always been a big team and now with Moutinho, James and Falcao, they can show this.
"I'm not sure if they will be ready to win Ligue 1 next season because PSG are further ahead in their development, but for sure Monaco are back."
Former midfielder Djorkaeff starred for Monaco for five years in the 1990s, but is best remembered for a successful spell in Italy with Inter. He also scored 28 goals in 82 caps for France, with whom he claimed World Cup and European Championship winners medals.
