We will speak to Barcelona first if we want David Villa, says Atletico president

La Liga's third-placed side could make a move for the Spain international amid ongoing rumours that he is looking to leave the Blaugrana at the end of the season
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has hinted at a move for Barcelona attacker David Villa in the summer transfer window.

La Liga's third-placed side are in the market for a new striker due to the expected departure of Radamel Falcao, who appears to be on his way to Chelsea at the end of this season, and they supposedly see the 31-year-old Villa as a suitable replacement.

Goal.com exclusively revealed in January that Arsenal were keen on bringing Villa to the Emirates Stadium, but it remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger's interest continues into the summer.

"We are always looking to sign big players," Cerezo told La Xarxa Radio.

"At the moment Villa is a Barcelona player, though. If we opt to pursue him we will contact Barcelona first."

Villa joined Barcelona from Valencia in the summer of 2010 and has since made over 100 official appearances for the Catalans. However, he has been struggling to find his best form since returning from a serious injury in 2012 and is continually being linked with a move away from Barca.

His current contract with the Blaugrana runs until the summer of 2014.
