Alderweireld committed to Ajax until end of season despite Tottenham interest

The Belgian defender has recognised the interest he has attracted from the north London club, but insists he will spend at least the rest of the season in Amsterdam
Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed he is aware of speculation linking him with a January move to Tottenham, but insists he is committed to the Dutch giants until the end of the season.

Former team-mate and fellow Belgian Jan Vertonghen has impressed since making the switch to north London for a fee of £10 million last summer, and it is believed Alderweireld would command a similar fee.
2/1 Tottenham are 2/1 with William Hill to finish in the top four this season

But the centre-back, whose current contract expires in 2014, is adamant he has no burning desire to leave Amsterdam.

"I also read [about transfer links] in the press, but that’s not for now," he told AT5. "Anyway, I will complete the season at Ajax .

“Only in football things can go fast, so never say never. I focus now on Ajax and expect me to finish the season here.”

On Friday Ajax boss Frank de Boer revealed he would only consider selling Alderweireld in January if a "super transfer fee" was offered.
