thumbnail Hello,

The Switzerland international defender has been out of favour at the north London club in recent months but has been assured that he is still wanted at the Emirates

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou has been told that he is still a part of Arsene Wenger's plans despite not starting a first-team game since April.

The Swiss centre-back, who has made 86 appearances for the Gunners in an eight-year spell with the club, is reportedly wanted by Italian side Napoli.

However, Wenger has insisted that the Ivory Coast-born Switzerland international defender still has a role to play at the Emirates Stadium.

He told The Sun: "I didn't let Djourou leave as I love him as a player and he loves the club."

Djourou has been named as an unused subsitute in two of Arsenal's three Premier League games so far this season and appears to be behind Per Mertesacker, Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny in the fight for a place at the heart of the Gunners' defence.
