Former Celtic defender Paul Elliott has revealed how he has urged Arsenal’s Sol Campbell to move to the SPL runners-up.

Elliott, who played for the Hoops from 1989-91, believes that, despite his age, the 35-year-old Arsenal defender will shine at Parkhead.

Campbell has been quoted recently as saying that he is interested in joining the Bhoys, but will delay any decision until the future of current caretaker-manager Neil Lennon is resolved.

Elliott said: "I know Sol very well and I was talking to him about a month ago. I said to him one thing - if you have the opportunity to go to Celtic, you must take it.

"He's 35, he's played in World Cups, the Champions League and I have to say he was consistently outstanding for Arsenal last season. He has been very injury-free in his career.

"Somebody of that magnitude, if Celtic were fortunate enough to get him, certainly would make a positive contribution.

"He is a very nomadic kind of guy, very comfortable in his skin and I think he would deliver tremendous potential."

Campbell’s contract with Arsenal expires at the end of this month so he will be available on a free transfer.
