Premier League Preview: Wolverhampton Wanderers - Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs will be out for revenge after 1-0 defeat at the Lane...
By Richard Parry
Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton.
Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur side will travel to Molineux seeking revenge after Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 1-0 victory at White Hart Lane in December.
Mick McCarthy’s side were somewhat unfortunate to return from St Andrews last weekend without a point, after leading against their promotion companions for much of the match before Kevin Phillips’ two late strikes won the game for Birmingham.
Spurs on the other hand played out a goalless draw at home to Aston Villa, by no means a catastrophic result, but Redknapp will be concerned by his side’s recent lack of goals.
Since the turn of the year, Spurs have only found the net on three occasions in the Premier League, two of which came at home to Fulham, in what was his side's only victory from their last five matches.
Jermain Defoe’s FA Cup hat-trick against Leeds United will have added an extra boost to their forward line, but Spurs will be hoping that the England man’s fellow forwards can start chipping-in with some strikes of their own.
Spurs will also be eager to reclaim the much coveted fourth spot in the coming weeks, having been displaced by Liverpool after the Reds’ victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby.
Wolves on the other hand will be hoping for three points of their own which, depending on other results, could see the club move out of the relegation zone.

TEAM NEWS
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Mick McCarthy’s side will be without four players for Wednesday’s match as David Edwards, Andy Keogh and Michael Kightly are all ruled out with ankle injuries, while Stefan Maierhofer is also sidelined (groin).
Starting XI from last league match [Birmingham]: Hahnemann, Craddock, Ward, Berra, Zubar, Mancienne, Foley, Henry, Jones, Jarvis, Doyle.
Tottenham Hotspur
Club captain Ledley King will be rested for the trip to Molineux, having featured in the home match against Aston Villa at the weekend. Michael Dawson will captain Spurs while Sebastien Bassong and Younes Kaboul will battle for a place alongside the Englishman in defence.
There is still no official return date for Jonathan Woodgate, who remains sidelined with groin strain, as does Aaron Lennon – although the speedy winger could be set to return for the match away to Wigan Athletic at the end of the month.
New acquisition Eidur Gudjohnsen will likely find himself warming the bench, with the ever-improving David Bentley set to continue on the right flank for Spurs.
Starting XI from last league match [Aston Villa]: Gomes, Corluka, Dawson, King, Bale, Modric, Huddlestone, Palacios, Bentley, Crouch, Defoe.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Wolves – Kevin Doyle
The Irishman’s work rate alone will sap the energy out of Tottenham’s defence, and although the striker has only scored six goals in 20 league appears so far this season Spurs should be wary of the former-Reading forward, especially as it was he who bagged Wolves' winner at White Hart Lane.
Since arriving in English football from Cork City in 2005, Doyle has found the net 69 times in 207 appearances for club and country, giving him a respectable record of one goal in every three matches.
Having scored Wolves’ solitary goal against Birmingham last time out, Doyle will be confident ahead of the visit of Spurs, and could sneak a goal for the home side sounds he get the opportunity.
Tottenham Hotspur – Tom Huddlestone
The former Derby man spent of the 2005/2006 season loan at Wolves under the tutelage of then manager, and Spurs hero, Glenn Hoddle. Huddlestone made 12 appearances, prominently at centre back, scoring one goal.
Since returning to Spurs the powerful midfielder has developed into a key creative component in the centre of Tottenham’s midfield. Huddlestone’s passing ability has long been admired, and has aided his side with four assists and three goals in 28 games thus far this season.
His one weakness is still his limited mobility, although this is something that the midfielder has clearly improved on in recent months, and something that the affectionately named ‘Thudd’ can overcome against weaker opposition with ball-striking ability.
PREDICTION
Wolves’ 1-0 victory at White Hart Lane was a great result for McCarthy’s men, having been battered throughout much of the match. But Wednesday’s contest will be much different, as although Spurs can be lethal at White Hart Lane, they are often fair less wasteful on their travels, and I expect Redknapp’s side to attack with conviction at Molineux.
