Premier League Preview: Blackburn Rovers – Hull City
Rejuvenated Tigers hoping to maintain good run with first away win…
By Gill Clark
Ewood Park, Blackburn
After beating Manchester City and drawing with league leaders Chelsea, Phil Brown’s Tigers have come roaring back into form ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers.
City have lost just one of their last six games, and Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Roberto Mancini’s men saw them rise out of the drop zone, and into 14th position in the table.
However, to maintain their good run Hull will have to accomplish a feat that has been beyond them so far this season; namely, winning away from home in the Premier League.
A miserable record on their travels means the Tigers have picked up just four points away from the KC Stadium this season - all draws- but they will head to Ewood Park full of confidence after recent results.
Blackburn, meanwhile, will be hoping to bounce back from a 3-0 mauling at the hands of Stoke City that also saw them end the game with 10 men after Christopher Samba had been handed his marching orders.
Following that defeat manager Sam Allardyce admitted the game with Hull is “key” as he looks to guide his side through the all-important 40-point barrier as soon as possible.
Indeed Rovers could do with victory as their fixture list may make uncomfortable reading for fans with a nervous disposition.
Next up is a local affair with Bolton Wanderers, followed by Liverpool, Birmingham City, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and a derby with Burnley.
However, Allardyce’s men have a strong home record, having lost just twice all season and they will be buoyed by the knowledge they have never lost to Hull in the three Premier League meetings.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Blackburn Rovers – Nikola Kalinic
The Croatian has struggled to find the net in recent weeks and is without a goal since hitting the winner against Wigan Athletic at the end of January.
However, against a defence that has conceded 30 times already on their travels this season he will fancy his chances of returning to the goal trail.
Hull City – Jozy Altidore
Hull’s 20-year-old American international bagged his first league goal for the club against Manchester City on Saturday and after the match admitted he was hopeful it was the first of many.
With Amr Zaki and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink vying for his place he may need to keep impressing his manager if he is to stay in the first team.
PREDICTION
The form book suggest the Tigers may never have a better chance of picking up their first away win of the season yet Rovers have made Ewood Park a fortress this season and both sides may have to settle for a point.
