The Aston Villa man mocks the abject French display
The Aston Villa defender was in the Ireland side that suffered a play-off defeat by France at the 'hands' of Thierry Henry, an incident that caused controversy and debate all over the world.
Speaking to reporters, Dunne mocked the French: “I didn't see it [France’s performance] but I did laugh."If you're going to cheat to get there, you might as well try when you are out there but they didn't even do that!”
Reflecting on the events that saw Ireland’s World Cup dreams shattered, Dunne stated that the apology issued by Henry did little to ease the pain, but the former Manchester City defender remained upbeat about Ireland’s chances in the 2012 European Championships.
"Henry admitted afterwards he handled it, but it doesn't make me feel any better. We were cheated.
"It happens," he said. "We weren't there [in South Africa], but we'll try to get to the European Championships and that'll be it."
