The versatile attacker never expected to be such a success in South Africa.Germany starlet Thomas Mueller has admitted his surprise at having won the 2010 World Cup's Golden Boot award.
"This is just incredible for a newcomer to the World Cup. If anyone told me I'd end on eight scorer points, I'd have said they were kidding me," said Mueller to Bayern Munich's official website.
Mueller, 20, also commented on his receipt of the Best Young Player award, expressing his delight at joining a collection of illustrious names to receive the title.
“It’s a huge honour to be part of a group including the likes of Pele, Franz Beckenbauer, Michael Owen and the most recent winner, Lukas Podolski," he said.
Mueller, who just a year ago was playing third division football in Germany, has rapidly risen to prominence. In the past few months alone, he has reportedly seen his value increase to in excess of €38 million (£32m).
