Hip injury opens door for Michael Vorm to make appearance...World Cup finalists Netherlands have received some disturbing news on the injury front in the build-up to Sunday's highly anticipated match against reigning European champions Spain.
According to a report on NUsport, national team coach Bert van Marwijk may have to do without the services of first choice shot-stopper Maarten Stekelenburg due to injury.
The Ajax goalkeeper picked up a hip injury during Oranje's 3-2 semi-final win against Uruguay earlier this week. Stekelenburg did play the full 90 minutes, but the glovesman complained about hip problems after the match.
Stekelenburg was initially expected to be match fit in time for the final, but the latest reports now suggest that the injury is still causing him problems and that he could miss Sunday's match.
It would be a huge blow for Netherlands if Stekelenburg doesn't make it in time. The highly-rated custodian was in impressive form against Slovakia and Brazil. Four-times capped Michel Vorm is likely to be handed the chance to replace Stekelenburg between the sticks if the latter doesn't recover in time.
