Goal.com UK Poll: Majority of readers had backed Germany - so now who do you think will win World Cup 2010?
Netherlands vs Spain, Uruguay vs Germany - predict the order of finish...
By Steven Saunders
Despite having to face Vicente del Bosque's European champions in the last four, readers were so taken by the rampant Germans, top scorers in the tournament, that more than 70 per cent voted for Joachim Loew's side to reach the final.
More impressive was that 89 per cent of readers believed the Netherlands would overcome Uruguay and reach their first World Cup final since 1978.
The pre-semi-final poll brought the following results:
25.25% correctly predicted a Netherlands-Spain World Cup final
6.81% believed Netherlands will beat Spain to lift the trophy
18.44% thought Spain will beat Netherlands in the final
70.86% of readers who backed Netherlands to beat Uruguay also felt they would lose to whoever they faced in the final
70% of those who backed Spain to reach the final believed that they would go on to win it
86.36% of readers who thought Germany would end up in the 3rd/4th place play-off believed they would win that match
87.84% believed that if Germany were to meet Uruguay in the 3rd/4th place play-off, the Germans would win
But how have the semi-final performances affected your thinking? Did the Netherlands show against Uruguay that they have enough in attack to worry a resolute Spanish defence?
Did Spain convince the doubters that not only are they good enough to defeat Germany, but they have what it takes to also beat the Dutch?
And what about the 3rd/4th place play-off - a cake-walk for the favoured Germans or are Uruguay going to go out in style?
Have your say by voting in our poll, and explain your decision by leaving a comment below.
