Editors have voted Dutch midfielder the man of the match...
The Netherlands reached their first World Cup final since 1978 after defeating Uruguay 3-2 in the semi-finals in Cape Town on Tuesday evening. Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben were on target for the Oranje.
However, according to the editors, the man who stood out for the Dutch on the night was Mark van Bommel. The Bayern Munich midfielder did his job perfectly and kept the Uruguayan midfielders quiet for most of the match.
Van Bommel's battling qualities and presence in the midfield allowed the attacking players to concentrate fully on crafting their moves. Perhaps he is not the most cherished or beloved footballer, but he is certainly one of a kind and someone whom you can rely on to suffocate and bully the opposition.

Goal.com Fans' Top of the Match sponsored by Turkish Airlines: Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands)
Goal.com readers, though, didn't agree with our editors and voted Dutch attacking midfielder Wesley Sneijder as their man of the match. The Inter star scored the second goal for his team tonight and also looked quite creative in parts. Although it wasn't his best showing of the tournament, he still stood out as the Netherlands' most creative player in the attacking department.
