World Cup 2010: Alvaro Pereira insists Uruguay gave their all in defeat to the Netherlands

South Americans fell to 3-2 defeat in World Cup semi-final...
Uruguay were defeated 3-2 by the Netherlands on Tuesday night, ending their dream of competing in a World Cup final, but defender Alvaro Pereira believes his side did everything within their power to overcome the Dutch, but ultimately failed to do so.

Pereira's namesake Maximiliano Pereira scored Uruguay's second goal, allowing the South American side to pour forward in search of an injury time equaliser before eventually falling to a 3-2 defeat on the night.

"We did everything to win this game, but could not," Pereira told the assembled media after Tuesday's game.

"From the first minute we went to press up. This team gave everything but we could not win.

"The defeat happened because they got the goals. They scored two goals, we went out to look for the equaliser, but couldn't find it.

"The joy and pride to have represented the national team here has ended."
