Uruguay midfielder Egidio Arevalo said that he was proud of his team's achievement in South Africa despite falling just short of reaching the World Cup final.
The South American side lost 3-2 to the Netherlands in the semi-finals on Tuesday evening. The match was tied 1-1 at the half-time interval before the Dutch scored twice in quick succession trhough Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben in the second period.
Although Maximiliano Pereira scored for the South Americans deep into injury time, it proved to be a mere consolation.
However, Uruguay midfielder Arevalo refused to be downhearted about the defeat and was content with their great journey that few had expected at the start of the World Cup campaign.
"We had a good World Cup, things were done well. We achieved what couldn't be achieved for many years," he told Canal Cuatro. "We won several matches too, it was important for us."
"We wanted to go long, go all the way, the group proposed it, but hey, we met a very tough team that plays good football."
