Liverpool striker Fernando Torres accepts that he is not assured of a place in Spain's starting line-up when the European champions take on Germany in the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup on Wednesday evening.
Torres has been in disappointing form in South Africa and has yet to find the net with some reports suggesting that the former Atletico Madrid forward would be dropped in favour of either Cesc Fabregas or David Silva.
The Spain international striker has now accepted that he may be dropped to the bench against the Germans following an indifferent run of games in South Africa.
"In this squad, no one has a guaranteed spot. This squad is very competitive and anyone can be a starter," Torres told Marca.
"Nobody is guaranteed a starting spot. So I have to work hard during the week to be in the starting line-up but if I don't get to start, then I don't start and I will support the team from outside the pitch."
Expressing his opinion on the German team, Torres said: "Germany are a competitive side who play with speed and are always fighting for everything. They have young players who give a lot of quality, and they are demonstrating that they are the team to beat.
"There are no better rivals, better scenario or better time to face the favourites Germany. We are counting the hours, but these days are going to go very slow."
Alluding to their victory over Germany in the Euro 2008 final, the 26-year-old added: "Hopefully, our football will impose itself and at the end of the game, we will be just as happy as in Vienna.
"Let's hope that there's an even happier day to come but first, we must win against Germany."
