Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz: This is my last World Cup for Paraguay
Centre forward hints at Copa America 2011 participation...
By Matt Monaghan
Santa Cruz, 28, played an important role in the South American's historic charge to the quarter-final stage this summer, and came off the bench in the 1-0 defeat to Spain. But years of injury problems have led to the declaration to the media today that he will take no part in the next tournament in 2014.
The Manchester City centre forward has grabbed 21 goals in 70 appearances during his 11-year spell with the national side, but has seen the likes of Oscar Cardozo and Lucas Barrios put his role under pressure in recent times.
In a boost to Paraguayan supporters, he hinted that he could yet take part in Copa America 2011 which will be hosted by Argentina.
Manager Gerardo Martinez has also announced his intention to step down from his current position, the Argentine admitting he has management offers from a number of club sides in South America to consider.
