Netherlands striker Robin van Persie has been sent to hospital for a scan on his arm injury which he picked up during the 2-1 win over Brazil in the World Cup quarter-final on Friday.

Arsenal star Van Persie played on after picking up his injury but was substituted with five minutes to go.

"Robin van Persie is in hospital at this moment for a scan and Joris Mathijsen is the same," said coach Bert van Marwijk in a press conference.

Defender Joris Mathijsen has also been referred for a scan, after a knee injury he received during the warm-up.

Mathijsen had been named in the starting line-up against Brazil but was replaced by Andre Ooijer at the last minute.

The Netherlands' semi-final tie against Uruguay is on Tuesday evening.
