Goalkeeper philosophical about own goal error...

Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar has admitted the Netherlands deserved to progress to the World Cup 2010 semi-finals.

The Inter player endured a game to forget as his flap at a Wesley Sneijder cross led to the Felipe Melo own goal that saw the Dutch draw level. His club team-mate was then on hand again to add the finishing touch to condemn the Samba Boys to a 2-1 defeat and an early exit from the competition.

Speaking to the press after the game, Cesar expressed his regret at letting down the Brazilian supporters.

"The trust of the Brazilian fans was high. I think football is eleven against eleven and in the second half they deserved the result," Cesar said.

"We didn't react well to the first goal. It was a ball that I had doubts on how to go to the ball with Melo. Those are things that happen in football. We have to hold our heads high.

"The pressure in Brazil is always big. But it was worth it for the campaign and for getting here. It's a very sad feeling."

He added: "I think the feeling is sadness. The locker room collapsed. The confidence was high. It was a group that rescued the feeling of admiration from the fans towards the Brazilian team. When Brazil gets to a World Cup they are always favourites. In the second half, the two balls were decisive. As I see it, Holland took their chances and with the players they have, managed the result.

"Now a lot of things will be said about thing that could have been done. We lost because we played a second half far from what we know. It's complicated because we faced an experienced team.

"I take a lot of sadness from the World Cup. That feeling of defeat that everyone is feeling in this moment. It was a Cup that...I don't know what to say. I'm out in the quarter-finals again.

"Of course that every player wants to be in the World Cup. My injury is with me for a long time. I'm not crazy to go into a World Cup without being well. I knew about my conditions. The future, now, belongs to God. The work continues in my club and I want to continue at the Selecao. This defeat will hurt the players for a long time."
